What is the Developer Sandbox?
Bandwidth.com is proud to announce its Developer Sandbox Program, beginning in August 2009. The goal of the Developer Sandbox is to accelerate development of next-generation applications that are integrated with the latest in IP-communications. In order to achieve that goal, we would like to invite developers into the Bandwidth.com network Sandbox, to help us test functionality and develop applications in 3 specific categories:

IP communications network functionality, such as next-generation VoIP codecs, the T38 fax protocol, SIP enabled SMS, and HD voice
Fixed-mobile convergence functionality, such as sharing one number across both mobile and landlines, advanced call-flows and call routing, and unique new telephony applications
Open source telephony, focused on FreePBX (a Bandwidth.com sponsored open source project)

What type of developers is Bandwidth.com looking for?
Bandwidth.com is looking for developers with strong backgrounds in IP communications and telephony, mobile applications, and open source telephony. Experience with FreePBX, FreeSwitch, Asterisk or other IP-PBX technologies will be helpful (but not necessarily required). Also, experience with other SaaS/cloud telephony API’s is desirable.

What are the benefits of working with Bandwidth.com in the Sandbox?
If you like to work with some of the brightest minds in IP communications, and get your hands on some of the latest network technologies available, then this program is for you. Bandwidth.com will work with you to give you the resources you need to either build a new application or feature, or participate in a Bandwidth.com internal pilot of some new IP communications or Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) technology. For example, Bandwidth.com may provide you with API-access to VoIP network features, DIDs, minutes or even a mobile phone and test plan that is part of Bandwidth.com’s internal pilots. Bandwidth.com will also host events and meet-ups so that you can get to know your peers and Bandwidth.com engineers.

How many developers will be selected?
Bandwidth.com will select around 10-20 developers for participation in Phase 1 of the program. However, that number may increase rapidly (within 90-180 days) as pilot technologies prove viable for broader participation. By signing-up below, we will keep everyone notified about broader participation opportunities - so make sure you sign-up, even if you are just interested in keeping in the loop!
