The big difference between consumer level high speed Internet connections and the industry standard Business T1 line is reliability. While a DSL circuit may deliver the download speed of a T1 at times, guarantees of speed and reliability can only be found with T1 circuits.
The question for many businesses is usually Which technology is more appropriate? . If a company plans on running a website, email or other server type application over their Internet connection, a T1 line is almost mandatory. On the other hand, if employee web and email access is the only goal of the office Internet connection and some slowness and downtime is acceptable, than a Business DSL or Cable connection might be more appropriate.
