A T1 provides high speed, point to point digital communications at rates of 1.544 Megabits per second in both directions at the same time. A traditional copper based T1 is essentially 2 pairs of twisted copper wires, one pair used for uploads and the other for downloads. This means that a T1 line is a full duplex circuit, or a circuit capable of transmitting and receiving at the same time. This differs from typical DSL and Cable service as uploads can greatly impede the download capability of the circuit.
