CEF
From Bandipedia
Cisco Express Forwarding (CEF) sets up balancing across two or more Internet connections. If one line fails, all traffic switches over to the other circuit. Load balancing is the act of distributing the load of a single connection or other service to multiple physical T1s. It offers lower cost, higher performance, and reliability when compared to having one large enterprise-scale server, but it is limited in the amount of bandwidth that can travel over the connection. A Load Balanced solution is necessary for MANY small requests for bandwidth. A good example is an office of 150 people in which they ALL are constantly downloading 1.5mb (or smaller) files. The Load Balanced solution will NEVER reach over 1.54M. It only allows more people to use the bandwidth.
