Digital Gateways

From Bandipedia

"Digital VoIP gateways are used to translate IP voice traffic to digital traffic, normally in the form of a PRI. Digital gateways are not only great for enabling older PBXs to use a VoIP network to communicate between each other, but they can also be used as a toll-bypass tool for international calling. A common application for digital VoIP gateways is for overseas call centers whereby a gateway is placed in the US with VoIP connectivity across the Internet to another gateway overseas, effectively making all calls domestic calls.

Gateways, both digital and analog, provide a great deal of flexibility in deploying VoIP applications, regardless of whether you have an IP-PBX system or a traditional PBX or key system. In fact, the primary value in utilizing VoIP gateways is to give IP functionality to non-IP telephone systems. "
