T1 Router Buying Guide

Routers

A T1 must be terminated on the users end by a T1 capable router also known as Customer Premise Equipment or CPE. Cisco leads the industry in providing this equipment with their 17xx and 26xx line of routers. Other CPE providers include but aren’t limited to; Tasman Networks, Netopia, Allied Telesyn, and Adtran. Most ISP’s will provide CPE on a rental basis for a nominal charge or at no cost. Buyers should beware exorbitant CPE charges or CPE management fees. As the cost of deploying CPE for any major ISP is low, additional margin may be put into CPE in order to make the T1 monthly charges seem low.
