International Toll Avoidance
From Bandipedia
International companies that have a high volume of toll-free calls originating within the US can use VoIP to avoid the high toll of terminating their 800 numbers in the country they are located in. A state side toll free number is provisioned on a VoIP service providers switch and the IP that it directs the calls to is an IP on the LAN of the international site. Since all calls originating in the US terminate to the VoIP switch, which is also in the US, the toll is US based and will be significantly lower in price than terminating internationally. Call quality will be determined by the strength of the bandwidth connection at the hosted VoIP Service Provider as well as the international premise and over-all quality could be lower but the gain outweighs the loss in most cases.
