PoE
From Bandipedia
Power Over Ethernet
Combines the provision of power with your network connection. It is made available by deploying a PoE switch on your LAN. PoE is rapidly gaining in popularity for IT infrastructures, as well as driving something of a revolution in industrial communications, dramatically simplifying network setup. PoE allows devices to receive power, and transmit and receive data via a single, twisted pair, Ethernet connection. Typical applications include connection of VoIP phone systems, surveillance camera applications and for use in harsh factory and temperature-uncontrolled outdoor applications where power has limited access across the LAN such as wireless access points. Typical manufactures of PoE switches include Cisco, Adtran, and 3Com.
