What is a PBX?

PBX is short for Private Branch Exchange. It's like a private telephone network deployed in an enterprise. A PBX will share a certain number of outside lines for making telephone calls. A voice T1 (also known as a PRI) terminates in a PBX allowing 24 channels of voice to be utilized. A PBX is essentially a switching mechanism for voice service.
