A guest post from A Place at the Table

A Place at the Table is a soon to be pay-what-you-can cafe opening in Raleigh. They will provide community and healthy food to all regardless of means. See more information at www.aplaceatthetableraleigh.org.

Recently, A Place at the Table popped up at Bandwidth, an innovative communications company located on NC State’s Centennial Campus.  This was a  different kind of pop-up for us but hopefully a model for future pop-ups.

Bandwidth and its Republic Wireless division encourage community involvement and volunteering.  An employee nominated us to be profiled as a volunteer opportunity. As a result, Bandwidth brought us in to plan a pop-up to make employees aware of A Place at the Table. Working with Grant and Jennifer from their side, and Cas and Rock from Neighbor Cater, we planned a lunch during the workday at their office. Neighbor Cater provided a delicious and healthy lunch, and A Place at the Table set up a community feel with large tables and conversation topics. In addition to thanking Bandwidth/Republic Wireless, we’d also like to thank employees Grant and Jennifer for their involvement.

Ed, Maggie and board members Erika and Allison had a delicious healthy meal with their employees, met new people in our community and shared the concept of a pay-what-you-can cafe.  We found many people who seemed interested in dining and volunteering when we are open.

If your workplace would like to host a pop-up, please contact Maggie at [email protected]
