Who is Raymond Sims Baum?
Born on August 18, 1955, Ray was a lawyer, regulator and congressional aide who spent his career shaping telecommunications laws with the FCC. After he passed away in 2018, RAY BAUM’S Act was named in his honor to celebrate his legacy.
Fun Fact: RAY BAUM’S stands for Repack Airwaves Yielding Better Access for Users of Modern Services.
Aren’t you glad it’s an acronym?!
Every second counts during a workplace emergency
Your IT and legal teams are required to provide dispatchable location information to emergency responders (even if you’re remote) if you use Multi Line Telephone Systems (MLTS), or communications systems that can handle more than one call at the same time.
This way, you’re calling the closest Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and emergency responders will be better equipped to locate you for quicker resolutions.
Ask your organization if you’re RAY BAUM’s Compliant
Email your IT and Legal departments with our template to find out if you have the tools to place a successful 911 call.
Get your organization on the road to E911 compliance
Since January 6, 2022, U.S. businesses operating MLTS systems are federally required to comply with RAY BAUM’S Act.
Use these best practices to understand where your organization may have compliance risks, and how to mitigate them. A fully compliant organization is confident of the following:
- You can direct dial 911 without the need to dial an access code
- You can self-provision and update your working locations via software
- Virtual workers and satellite offices can dial 911 from work devices and receive help quickly and effectively
