Registration requirements

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), Ireland's general communications regulator, requires all Sender IDs utilized to send SMS in Ireland to be registered in its Sender ID Registry. The Sender ID registration is currently free and is done on a first-come, first-served basis.

First, the Brand Owner needs to register as a Sender ID Owner (SIDO) by creating an account with the ComReg's Sender ID Registry. This is required for all applicants.

A Brand Owner is the company that owns the brand, product, or service associated with the Sender ID and that will be subject to the Sender ID validation process described below. To register as a SIDO, the Brand Owner (you or your end client) must follow the following steps:

  1. Visit the Sender ID Registry and click Sign-up.

  2. Complete the registration details. Once submitted, the Brand Owner, whether that is you or your end client will receive two emails from ComReg:

    • An email with login credentials and access link.

    • An email with instructions for completing your account setup.

  3. Log in using the access link and finish setting up your account.

Following completion of the SIDO registration process, you or your end client may choose to register the desired Sender ID(s) directly through the ComReg portal. If you select this option, Voxbone SA/NV and Infobip Ltd. must be designated as the OPAs during the registration process. Voxbone SA/NV is now part of Bandwidth Inc. and Infobip Ltd. is our designated partner for Ireland.

Alternatively, Bandwidth may action the Sender ID registration on behalf of the Brand Owner. In both instances, the final step includes the Sender ID registration process to confirm Sender ID registration and provision to your account for sending.

Once Voxbone SA/NV and Infobip Ltd. have been designated as the OPAs, ComReg will process the registration and issue approval notifications. We typically receive these approval reports within 24 hours of the registration being approved. Please expect a confirmation from Bandwidth within 1–2 business days following approval. At that stage, the Sender ID will be fully registered and provisioned on your account, and messaging traffic may commence.

Note: If you are an aggregator or reseller, a separate application must be submitted for each individual SIDO, i.e., each Brand Owner.
