The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), Ireland's general communications regulator, requires all Sender IDs utilized to send SMS in Ireland to be registered in its Sender ID Registry. This requirement is designed to enhance SMS trust and reduce spoofing. As a result, all SMS from unregistered Sender IDs may be labeled as "Likely Scam” and blocked by Irish carriers.
Note: Sender IDs must be alphanumeric and have a minimum of three characters and a maximum of 11 characters. Short codes and numbers cannot be registered.
Sign up for the Sender ID Registry
The Sender ID registration is currently free and is done on a first-come, first-served basis. First, you need to register as a Sender ID Owner (SIDO) by signing up for the Sender ID Registry:
Complete the registration details. Once submitted, you or your end client will receive two emails from ComReg:
An email with login credentials and access link.
An email with instructions for completing your account setup.
Log in using the access link and finish setting up your account.
You're now ready to register your Sender IDs. You can complete this process on your own through the Sender ID Registry, or follow these steps if you prefer Bandwidth to do this on your behalf.
Register through the Sender ID Registry
Log in to the Sender ID Registry and click My Sender IDs.
Click Request New Sender IDs.
Select My own Sender ID and click Next.
Add the Sender ID name, assign 3rd Party (if applicable), and click Next.
Note: A 3rd Party is a reseller you might be using, not Bandwidth.
Search and select Voxbone SA/NV and Infobip Ltd. as the Originating Participating Aggregators (OPAs), and click Request.
OPA Authorization
If the Sender ID was already approved by ComReg, but you didn’t select Voxbone SA/NV and Infobip Ltd. as your OPAs, complete the following steps:
Log in to the Sender ID Registry and click My Sender IDs.
Find the applicable Sender ID, select Actions, and click OPA Authorisation.
Search and authorize Voxbone SA/NV (now Bandwidth) and Infobip Ltd. by sliding the radio button to the right, then click Confirm.
Register through Bandwidth
If you'd like Bandwidth to register your Sender IDs on your behalf, please complete the following steps:
Submit a ticket to the Bandwidth Compliance Team and provide your registered SIDO name using the following process.
Note: If you are an aggregator or reseller, each end client must submit a separate application.
Once Voxbone SA/NV (now Bandwidth) and Infobip Ltd. are authorized as your OPA(s), we’ll receive daily approval reports from ComReg. Please expect a confirmation email from us within 24 hours of approval. At that point, your Sender ID will be registered and messaging may commence.
