Registering your Alphanumeric Sender IDs in Ireland

Updated over a month ago

On May 27, 2025, the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), Ireland’s national telecom regulator, launched a mandatory Alphanumeric Sender ID Registry. This initiative is designed to enhance SMS trust and reduce spoofing. As a result, all Alphanumeric Sender IDs utilized to send SMS in Ireland must now be registered through ComReg’s portal.

Beginning July 3, 2025, unregistered Sender IDs will be labeled as "Likely Scam”. On October 3, 2025, Irish carriers may start blocking messages from unregistered Sender IDs.

To register your Alphanumeric Sender IDs in Ireland, please complete the following steps:

Step 1: Create a SIDO Account with ComReg

To register as a Sender ID Owner (SIDO), you must first create an account on the ComReg Sender ID Portal here: https://senderid.comreg.ie/

The Sender ID must be alphanumeric and have a minimum of three characters and a maximum of 11 characters. Short codes and numbers are not part of this registry and cannot be registered.

SMS Sender ID registration is currently free, and ComReg will register SMS Sender IDs on a first-come, first-served basis. All new SMS Sender IDs must also be registered with ComReg either directly or through us by following the process outlined below.

Step 2: Complete your registration on ComReg’s portal

Once submitted, you or your end client will receive two emails from ComReg:

  • An email with login credentials and a portal access link.

  • Instructions for completing the registration.

Next, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in using the link provided in the email and complete account setup.

  2. Once complete, you may register the Sender(s) on your own by following the steps below, or inform us of your registered SIDO name in Step 3, and we will complete the sender ID(s) registration on your behalf.

  3. Alternatively, if you would like to register the Sender on your own, please navigate to My Sender IDs

  8. If the sender was already approved by ComReg, but you didn’t select Voxbone SA/NV and Infobip Ltd. as your Participating Aggregators, you can do it in the following way:

    1. Log in to the portal and navigate to My Sender IDs.

Step 3: Submit a Sender ID registration request to Bandwidth

To complete the Sender ID registration in Ireland, please submit a ticket to the Bandwidth Compliance Team by using the following process:

Note: Each end-client must submit a separate application if you are an aggregator or reseller.

Step 4: Receive confirmation from Bandwidth

Once Voxbone SA/NV (Bandwidth) and Infobip Ltd. are authorized as your OPA(s), we’ll receive daily approval reports from ComReg. Expect a confirmation email from us within 24 hours of approval. At that point, your Sender ID will be registered, and messaging may commence.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why am I receiving emails from ComReg?

These emails are part of the official registration workflow. You must follow the instructions to complete your account setup and OPA authorization.

What do terms like SIDO, OPA, and MSP mean?

  • SIDO: Sender ID Owner (the brand owner)

  • OPA: Originating Participating Aggregator (e.g., Bandwidth)

  • MSP: Mobile Service Provider

  • Third Party: Any ISV linked to the Sender ID use

What should I do if the email link to ComReg’s portal doesn’t work?

Please reply directly to the email you received from ComReg or contact them at [email protected] to have the details reissued.

What should I do if I’m having issues on ComReg’s portal?

For general questions about the portal, please see the instructions earlier in this article or ComReg’s own FAQ. If you’re experiencing technical issues or specific problems with the portal, you may need to contact ComReg either through the Help tab or directly at [email protected].

How do I check my registration status?

You’ll receive a confirmation from Bandwidth once your Sender ID is approved.

The Sender has been in Pending status. What does this mean?

Please check if you have received any notification e-mails from ComReg; it is possible that they have asked for additional information, and that is why the request is still pending. If you are unable to find any emails, please reach out to the ComReg Sender ID team at [email protected] to inquire about this further.

Sender is approved by ComReg, but is being marked as "Likely Scam." What does this mean?

This means that the sender most likely hasn’t been registered with us, so please send us a registration request with all the relevant information as explained in Step 1, so that we can register the sender(s) and exclude them from manipulation. If you have already raised a registration request and the manipulations are still happening, please let us know so that we can further troubleshoot this.
