Messaging Transfer Confirmation (MTC) is a notification service that gives you the ability to approve the transfer of messaging services from your Bandwidth account to another industry provider or another Bandwidth customer. It’s available both via the Bandwidth App and API.
To contract for MTC, please reach out to your Bandwidth Account Manager. Once contracted, the Bandwidth Onboarding Team will add this feature to your account.

Locate an MTC request
To locate an MTC request in the Bandwidth App:
In the side navigation bar, select Numbers and click My Numbers.
Search for the number and click it to access its Phone Number Details page.
In the Service Activation section, locate the transfer confirmation request and click Confirm or Deny to complete the process.
Important: If you don’t approve the MTC request within 47 hours, it will be denied. This is done to prevent messaging from being automatically transferred after 48 hours without your explicit approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do messaging transfers have to be approved?
Bandwidth wants to protect customers’ numbers from unwanted ports/ hosted messaging attempts. This will reduce any downtime from messaging being inappropriately removed from customer accounts.
What types of numbers does this apply to?
This only applies to long code numbers. The industry doesn’t have the same capabilities yet for toll-free numbers.
What if I’m already hosting messaging elsewhere?
Those numbers will remain where they are. This service only applies to future messaging ports.
Could messaging leave even if I don’t approve through MTC?
While the default approval process is MTC, a manual process still exists in the industry that can be used for exceptions. This process requires a Letter of Authorization (LOA) in order to move the messaging, and we'll still reach out to you for approval (please note, if we don't hear back from you, the messaging will be released to the requesting provider). This method is less likely to be accidentally completed since an LOA showing ownership of the telephone number (TN) is required.
How much does the MTC service cost?
You’ll be charged per TN for each messaging transfer you approve either in the Bandwidth App or via the API. If the transfer is denied or no response is provided, no charge will be assessed.
Is reporting available?
Reporting is coming soon and will be available under Insights>Reports>Number Reports and include the following information:
TN
Overwriting Carrier
Approve or Deny
Timestamp of Decision
User who approved or denied
