What is Hosted Messaging?
Hosted Messaging allows Bandwidth customers to enable messaging on numbers they don't own for voice. It's designed to let you send and receive SMS and MMS messages using the Bandwidth App while leaving the voice service in place with your current carrier or service provider.
Does Hosted Messaging support all messaging products?
Yes! All Bandwidth messaging products, such as Short Code Messaging, Toll-Free Messaging, and International Zones 2-5, work the same on Bandwidth-provided numbers and customer-supplied landline/VoIP numbers.
How do I add Hosted Messaging?
If you're interested in adding Hosted Messaging to your suite of messaging services, please contact your Account Manager.
How do I enable Hosted Messaging?
To enable Hosted Messaging, you must obtain a valid Hosted Messaging LOA (signed within the last 30 days) from a subscriber or a North American Numbering Plan (NANP) provider, such as a CLEC or a RespOrg.
In addition, you must be able to monitor and manage the port-out activity on your numbers, as well as enable at least one of your Locations for messaging. For more information, please see our HTTP and SMPP/MM4 guides.
How do I import or remove Hosted Messaging numbers?
What happens if a Hosted Messaging number ports to another provider?
If a Hosted Messaging number changes voice providers, it's likely that the new voice provider will attempt to overwrite messaging as part of the voice port. It'll be up to the you and your end user to determine the appropriate course of action as far as keeping messaging with Bandwidth.
Note: A number porting away to another provider could result in a messaging disruption as the new provider assumes ownership of the messaging route(s).
