Purple finds a partner to meet FCC mandates

Purple provides the nation’s premier communication services tailored to people who are deaf or hard of hearing. In 2008, the FCC issued a mandate for telephone relay services (TRS), which enables people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or speech disabled to use a text telephone (TTY) or an Internet-connected PC to communicate with hearing persons over a telephone.

Finding a partner to meet regulations

Purple needed a partner to help them meet the FCC mandate for TRS. Operating in a very unique environment, Purple is very particular in selecting partners. After an extensive review of the companies in the industry, Purple selected Bandwidth.

A partner with the reach to help a nationwide community

With more than 31 million people in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, Purple needed a service provider with a robust offering and the widest possible footprint. Bandwidth provided:

  • Efficiency: One of the largest footprints of coverage across the U.S. to terminate a 911 call.
  • Ease of use: A web interface with a complete API and a branded end-user portal for making address changes easy for users.
  • Streamlined operations: A 99% address acceptance rate on the first submission.

Meeting regulations ahead of the deadline

Bandwidth helped Purple fulfill the new FCC requirements months ahead of the FCC deadline, providing the necessary API and web tools to successfully launch services by tying into Purple’s signup portals.

With Bandwidth, Purple successfully added thousands of new users within a very short time, all without manual interaction, freeing up vital resources that would have otherwise been used to handle customer support issues.

“Bandwidth was extremely helpful in not only helping us meet the FCC deadline, but also as a reliable, effective partner throughout the entire deployment process. We applaud their speed and flexibility.”

—Tony Larosa Vice President Purple Communications
